 BMUN-2020

Our school was fortunate enough to get a chance to organise Bhavan’s Model United Nations 2020, the first ever Online MUN from the Bhavan's fraternity. It was conducted on the 5th and 6th of August, 2020. BMUN 2020 was inaugurated by CA Sri. Venugopal C. Govind, Honourable Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra. One of the remarkable things that made BMUN 2020 stand apart from its predecessors was that it was carried out in the digital platform - Google Meet.

Honourable Chairman CA Sri. Venugopal C. Govind, esteemed Director, Sri. E. Ramankutty, beloved Principal Smt. Girija T.S and beloved Vice Principal Smt. Kalyani Sreekumar spoke a few words and graced the inauguration with their presence.

Two days were filled with debate, discussions and deliberations through the committees in BMUN 2020 which were as follows:

Discussing on the agenda Cyber Security and protection against cyber-warfare. DISEC was chaired by Mr. Mohammed Faras Hussein Sait, an experienced debater and ardent MUNner who guided the delegates all through the course of the committee. Faras, our Alumni, was accompanied by Nivedit Nandakumar of Std 10 and Bhavini Prabhu of Std. 11 of our school who served as the Vice-chairs for DISEC

2. United Nations Security Council (UNSC) -

Discussing on the agenda The Boko Haram insurgency UNSC was chaired by Mr. Ashwin Menon, an excellent orator who is currently pursuing his Bachelors from Ashoka University. Ashwin was assisted by Shruti Sumesh of Std 11 from our school who served as the Vice-chair for UNSC.

UNHRC was chaired by Ms. Kaavya Iyer and Ms. Manasvinei Manoj, two experienced MUNners whose names are common in the Kochi MUN circuit. Both Alumni of our school, they were accompanied by Abhirami Ramnath from Std 11, of our own school who served as the Vice-chair for UNHRC.

Navneeth D. Menon, a Std. 11 student of our school, served as the Secretary-General for BMUN 2020.

It is notable to highlight that all these students are highly qualified MUN contenders who have attended many prestigious MUN conferences including the Harvard Model United Nations, Boston, India, Dubai etc.

All three committees were successful and brought out three informative and productive resolutions which we believe will bring the changes the world desperately needs in the future when the participants of BMUN 2020 go on to become world leaders representing our nation in the prestigious United Nations Organisation.

The Bhavan’s Model United Nations 2020 received overwhelming responses from all over the world! The conference had responses coming in from the Nigerian hills, from the modern Dubai, beautiful Puerto Rico, to our own capital city of New Delhi, the Metro Bangalore, and definitely from God’s own country, specifically our own Kochi. BMUN 2020 was able to reach the nooks of the world even though it was constrained due to the current pandemic. A staggering 128 delegates took part in BMUN 2020. It was a novel experience conducting it online for the very first time, as a lot of things had to be taken into account.

The winners received cash prizes and Merit certificates from our school. All participants were gifted with a participation certificate.

The feedback session proved to be constructive and we look forward to hosting more of such enriching and invigorating MUN conferences in the future too!

The students thoroughly enjoyed the MUN training and conference, based on their feedback. Navneeth D. Menon of Class 11 presided over as the Chair, assisted by Sruthi Sumesh as the Vice Chair.
